CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

ICON•S 2026 Annual Conference

CALL FOR PANELS, PAPERS AND INTEREST GROUPS

We are excited to invite you to participate in the 2026 ICON•S Annual Conference, which will be held in person at the University College Dublin (UCD) Sutherland School of Law, in Ireland, from June 29 to July 1 2026.

The conference theme is “Reimagining Public Law for a Fractured World: Technology, Identity & Truth.” We particularly encourage submissions relating to the conference theme but welcome proposals addressing all areas of public law, broadly defined.

You must be an active member of ICON-S in order to make a submission.

Types of Submissions

There are three types of submission:

  1. Individual Submission: Use this to submit a paper you would like to present in a panel we put together.
  1. Organizer of a Fully-Formed Panel/Book Roundtable: Use this if you are organizing a fully formed panel or book roundtable composed of multiple paper presentations around a unified theme or dedicated to discussing a book. Please note that all participants involved in a fully-formed panel or book roundtable will need to make separate submissions alongside the overarching proposal submitted by the panel organizer.
  1. Participant in a Fully-Formed Panel/Book Roundtable: Use this to submit a paper for or to indicate you will be acting as a chair or discussant on a fully formed panel or book roundtable.

Each submission type has distinct requirements detailed in the dedicated submission links provided below. In general, all submissions should include a title, an abstract/description of up to 250 words, and biographical details of participants.

Links for all three types of submission are available at the bottom of this page. Please read the following instructions carefully before submitting.

How to Submit

The entire conference process, including submissions, decision notifications, conference announcements, and participation certificates, will be managed through the Oxford Abstracts conference management software. Ensure that the email address associated with your Oxford Abstracts account is one you regularly use, as communication regarding the conference will be directed to that address. Kindly use this email address consistently at all stages of the conference; failure to do so may result in issues such as appearing unregistered.

Details on how to create an Oxford Abstracts account can be found here.

If you are facing financial hardship and cannot purchase a membership, you can apply for a waiver:

Participation Limits

Each participant can present a maximum of two papers (as a sole or presenting co-author). Subject to scheduling feasibility, each participant may submit themselves for two additional service roles (i.e., facilitating the dissemination of others’ work) as a chair or discussant. Exceptions may apply in cases where ICON•S assigns individuals as chairs or discussants.

Hybridity

The 2026 Conference will be in-person, with a limited hybridity option for fully formed panels and book roundtables. Everyone submitting individual abstracts will need to present their paper in person.

Subject to room availability, we will allow fully-formed panels and book roundtables submitted in advance to have one speaker joining remotely.

For hybrid panels, the chair of each panel must attend in person. The chair will be expected to serve as the panel’s online host by arranging a Zoom or equivalent link and managing any technical issues.

Next Steps

Submissions will remain open until February 15, 2026. You should receive notification of our decision by approximately March 15, 2026.

If you require an earlier decision in order to apply for a visa, funding, or any other purposes, please make your submission by December 1st, 2025, in which case you will receive a notification of our decision by approximately December 15, 2025.

If your proposal is accepted, you will then need to register for the event via Oxford Abstracts in order to confirm your participation. The relevant details and deadline for doing so will be included in the acceptance email.

Information about visas and accommodation, including discounted accommodation, can be found here.

Please remember: notification of acceptance does not equate to registration for the conference.

We draw your attention to the ICON•S anti-harassment policy, which including avenues for assistance and redress. This policy applies to all ICON•S programs, including both the in-person and virtual components of this Annual Conference.
