Popular Sovereignty: People, Territory & Imagination?

We would like to draw our members’s attention to this upcoming event of the Israeli Chapter of ICON•S:

In his book “Beyond the People – Social Imaginary and Constituent Imagination” (Oxford Constitutional Theory, 2018) Zoran Oklopcic critically examines how we, both inside and outside the academy, conceive of ‘the people’ in political and legal debates. Oklopcic provocatively offers a pioneering reinterpretation of the ‘vocabularies’ of popular sovereignty: self-determination, constituent power, foundational authority, constitutional self-government and sovereign equality, and a unique account of how their mutual relationship hinges on imaginative choices that are irreducible to disciplinary perspectives.

In this ICON•S Israel event, held on Zoom on May 27, 2020 6:30 PM (Israel Time) / 11:30 AM (EST), Prof. Yaniv Roznai (IDC), Prof. Lior Barshak (IDC), Prof. Amal Jamal (Tel-Aviv University), Dr. Ayelet Banai (Haifa University), Dr. Nicol Hochner (Hebrew U), Dr. Tamar Hostovsky-Brandes (Ono College), and Dr. Meital Pinto (One College & Tzefat College) will reflect on the main themes of the book: popular Sovereignty, constituent power, territory and social imagination, from different perspectives, and with regard to the Israeli context and beyond.

The conference will be held in English and we invite participants from all around the world to attend.
